It seems like the showers got pushed back to May; so here are some ways to prevent your basement from flooding (like the video above).
Gutters & Downspouts
The first thing you need to do is install gutters. If gutters aren't installed, the water will run off the roof and pool up around the foundation.
Foundation Crack Sealing
Buy a liquid concrete repair kit (typically a type of epoxy), and follow the instructions on the label.
French Drain
French drains are great if you have water coming in through the foundation walls, or if your basement becomes flooded. It won't prevent water from coming through the foundation floor
Sump Pump
Sump pumps are absolutely necessary in a basement. The foundation floor is slightly pitched towards the sump pump, so water will flow mostly to the ditch, then up and out of the house.
Window Well Covers
If you have basement windows, you'll need these covers. Make sure they're installed correctly (it should be tucked behind the siding).
Septic Tank Cleaning
Have your septic tank inspected annually. If it needs to be cleaned, take the opportunity to do so.
