Today's blog will teach you how to get rid of sticky door problems
Check for a Loose Hinge
If the hinge is loose from a stripped screw, you need to plug the hole so the screw can bite again. Whittle some wood 1/4-in wide, and cover it with glue. Then stick it in the hole and wipe away the excess
Deepen Hinge Mortises
If it still isn't closing smoothly, take the excess off the hinge side. Remove the hinges, and chisel 1/8th inch more off the mortises. Chisel parallel cuts, then with bevel side up, plow the chips out.
Plane the Door
Make sure the door's paint isn't lead-based, otherwise you'll have to use a chemical stripper. Then plane 1/8th inch off (The same side). Sandpaper the edges so they're not as sharp. The objective is to get the metal hinges flush with the door's edge
Paint the Door
Prime and paint the door as soon as possible, otherwise the door will swell again soon. Once painted, Rehang after it dries, and enjoy a free-swinging door!
