Enhance your Moulding
Make your crown moulding wider, base moulding taller, and mix in box trim (shadow boxes)
Double Up your Moulding
Install a thin piece of trim a few inches below the crown, and make sure the crown, trim, and the drywall between them are the same color.
Wood is Good
Don't substitute the natural beauty and elegance of a hardwood floor for carpet. Wood always makes your space feel taller. It may cost more, but you'll get a nice return when you sell your home.
Bigger is Better
Don't settle on the most readily available pillows. Search for larger pillows that go with your sofa, typically larger than 18-20 inches. Large attractive pillows can add that extra oomph to the whole room.
